Powered by Culture: Celebrating 10 Years at RED SQUARED

After being in business for ten years, RED SQUARED is entering its second decade by allowing culture to power the solutions that we craft for our clients. In celebration of us reaching this major milestone and in the spirit of the new year, I thought it would be great to share how we got here and how we’ve managed to find our place in the creative economy.

I’ll admit that when I first established the company, I could not see this far ahead. RED SQUARED was born from my desire to create something that would make my father proud after his passing in 2012. I never dreamed it would turn out the way that it has and the journey from there to here has been incredible. I’ve grown as a man and RED SQUARED has helped me find myself and discover my purpose in life. Through this company I’ve had the privilege of meeting interesting people and traveling to great places, all while building and creating work that I’m proud of.

What is our Culture?

RED SQUARED has always been powered by culture, but in the beginning it was very subconscious. The theme of culture was embedded within the work we initially took on as a company and revolved heavily around equity and opportunity. We knew for sure that culture itself was our brand around our sixth year in business. I started to notice a pattern in the work we took on and the type of work that we weren’t permitted to take on. This inspired our team to take a stand with our choices, which was magnified through our work following the murder of George Floyd.

Our culture is rooted in history and showcases the work being done (and work that needs to be done) through the lens of less seen perspectives, specifically those of people of color. Our culture is relevancy and soul. We use all of these elements to produce beautiful visual content and compelling stories that we and our clients can be proud of and share among our audiences. Culture is everything because it informs the work we produce and the work that we pursue.

Moving Forward

As we move into our next decade in business, we are planning to work on projects that will make an even bigger impact in our community. Some of those projects include working outside of the State of Mississippi to achieve our same goal of amplifying lesser heard voices. You can expect a more transparent RED SQUARED throughout 2023 and beyond as it relates to what we have going on internally and externally.

As a CEO, I’m using the greatest lesson I’ve learned this past decade to move us forward. People need adequate opportunities to succeed and I want RED SQUARED to be instrumental in helping to build the careers of others, like I’ve been able to build my own.

Ultimately, as a company, we’re striving to create a Mississippi that we can all be proud of. We are making an effort to build creative communities and subcommunities in Jackson as a way to offer more opportunities to creatives and young people in Mississippi to help reverse the “brain drain.” We’re in the process of developing a creative hub at our Midtown offices where creators can thrive called The Hangar.

The Hangar is home for RED SQUARED as well as the nonprofit organization, FLEET, which shares a complementary vision of connecting and equipping creative professionals in Jackson.
